There is no "command line" for defragging just the gw.dat - at least, not in GW. You'd have to defrag it using the usual tools or apps.

Post info edited. Post information found below in fusa's irreproachable correction.
Also works fine as a reminder why I stopped post on public forums. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong, ok I can live with that. But not with "omfg lol u n00b frakking moron..." from kidz who wouldnt dare saying that to my face instead of beeing rude behind the keyboard.

Lag is caused by a number of issues, the .dat file is rarely associated as one of them.
Good luck with whatever it is you are doing and I hope everything turns out fine.

Non of that is true. Gw.dat is too big for windows tools to defragment. Contig does not repair the dat it defragments large files, as well as smaller ones. Its recommended since its from Microsoft and a small and simple utility to use.
In other words don't listen to echX, he's got no idea what he's talking about. No idea where he gets the idea that op is trying to prevent lag, but it will definitely help performance, depending on how fragmented gw.dat is.

I found thit information on another forum and thought I'd pass it on since it looked quite useful, but my bad, sry for trying to help. And thank you for reminding me again why I shouldnt post on public forums. You always get declared the Court Jester, even those times the post is about a personal opinion and not a technical issue like this time.
A simple "Oh, Im afraid you are mistaken" would have suffised, but noooo... You had to go all the way to "In other words don't listen to echX, he's got no idea what he's talking about."
Again thank you for the reminder, but still good luck to the OP.

As the OP's problem has been resolved and some people are starting to flame, I'm closing this.
